The variety is of Dutch origin and was historically used as a model object for greenhouse cultivation, including the use of hydroponics and rockwool. In publications, it appears as a material for studying the influence of nutrient solution electrical conductivity levels and boron concentration on yield and fruit quality.
The plant is susceptible to Verticillium albo-atrum and Fusarium oxysporum, which was often used in studies of resistance to fungal infections. A distinctive morphological feature is the presence of dense hairs on the leaf surface, providing a defense mechanism against whitefly.
