The variety is used as a rootstock for cultivated eggplant varieties. Grafting onto Australys contributes to an increase in marketable yield, an increase in the number of marketable fruits, and a change in the mineral composition of the produce. The plant imparts increased growth vigor to scions in the first 35 days after planting.
The use of the rootstock helps cultivated eggplants overcome stresses caused by root system diseases and maintain productivity under continuous cropping. The variety is not intended for cultivation for the purpose of obtaining fruits for direct human consumption.
