Redsec is an object of biotechnological research conducted at the Banat University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and at the Târgul Secuiesc research station. The work with this material was aimed at increasing the plant's resistance to insects, including the Colorado potato beetle, by introducing the Bacillus thuringiensis (Cry3A) gene, as well as a glyphosate resistance gene.
In scientific publications, the material is characterized as a potential variety for in vitro experiments. Studies have confirmed its high capacity for regeneration, growth, and multiplication in tissue culture, the indicators of which in a number of tests exceeded the control variety Desirée.
