The Shepherd potato variety was obtained as a result of breeding work using parental lines Marrakech and BRU 93-136. Detailed morphological and agrotechnical descriptions of this variety, including data on disease resistance, plant height, or maturity groups, are not publicly available.

The variety underwent the official registration procedure in the plant variety registers of the Netherlands, however, in subsequent years (in the period 2019–2021) it was removed from them.
