The variety formed in Southern Norway in the Tromøya island area in the mid-18th century and is a folk landrace. The tubers have a round, slightly angular shape, with red skin and characteristic white areas around the eyes. The flesh is yellow, with a reddish tint in the vascular bundles.
The potato is characterized by a high dry matter content and a mealy texture. The variety is resistant to potato wart, but shows susceptibility to late blight. Currently, it is classified as a variety for the conservation of biological diversity and is used as a food potato.
