The variety belongs to the group of summer spinach. Its key feature is the ability to not form flower stalks for a long time, which makes it possible to harvest during the hot period of the season.
The plant develops a full leaf mass. For the variety variation called «Géant d'été précoce», an upright growth habit is characteristic.
The name may cause confusion, as in French sources it is sometimes applied to garden orach (Atriplex hortensis), which does not belong to the genus Spinacia, despite the visual similarity of the leaves.
