The variety is used by the International Working Group on Spinach Downy Mildew to test the virulence of the pathogen Peronospora effusa. Due to its susceptibility to a number of pathogen races, including Pfs: 16, Pfs: 17, Pe: 18 and Pe: 19, it serves as a control standard in disease monitoring.
