The Aldan Trifolium variety was obtained as a result of breeding work. Its origin is linked to the use of genetic material from the Øtofte and Swedish clover varieties.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the variety underwent trials during which green mass and seed yields were investigated. Archival reports from that period recorded data on plant height, however, detailed characteristics of plant habit, lodging resistance, and disease resistance are absent from open sources.
