The variety was developed by mass selection from a local population and has been cultivated since 1962. It is a diploid (2n=16) standard used for comparing flowering time, productivity, and winter hardiness of later varieties. Thousand kernel weight is 0.52–0.78 g.
The plant has satisfactory winter hardiness (post-winter survival is about 87.1%) and is characterized by susceptibility to diseases. The variety is intended for cultivation in grass mixtures with meadow grasses, tolerates acidic and moist soils well, and is also a honey plant.
