The Longevo variety was developed at the Experimental Institute for Fodder Crops in Lodi, Italy. In scientific literature, it is used as a reference sample for studying the effect of microbial inoculation on green mass productivity, as well as for research on resistance to anthracnose.

Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety, such as maturity group, exact plant height, or degree of lodging resistance, are absent from open databases.
