The Lossam variety is a tetraploid (4n) red clover of French origin. The crop is used as a forage plant in grass mixtures and for feed production.

The variety has good resistance to Sclerotinia, however, a high level of incidence of Bean yellow mosaic virus has been noted. In breeding work, Lossam is used as a reference sample when studying the genetic diversity of red clover using DNA markers.
