Ladino Gigante Lodigiano is a natural ecotype historically formed in the Po Valley. The plant is characterized by very large dimensions, thick fleshy stolons with long internodes, and hollow stems. The leaves are distinguished by an extremely large size and long petioles, and the general habit is upright, sparse, and open.

This ecotype is highly productive in the first year of life, shows good results in the spring and autumn periods, but is prone to stand thinning in subsequent years. It tolerates intensive grazing poorly, possesses some resistance to nematodes, and has a low content of cyanogenic glycosides. Due to its characteristics, it serves as source material for breeding and as a reference sample in research.
