The Filou variety appears in European agrotechnical and breeding works, including trials on nitrogen fertilizer efficiency and mixed cropping experiments. The variety is also used as an example variety in UPOV technical guidelines for the conduct of tests for distinctness, uniformity and stability.
Morphologically, the variety is characterized by a high frequency of plants with a recurved flag leaf. The shape of the ear in profile is described as pyramidal. Detailed agronomic data, including yield figures, disease resistance, and detailed grain quality characteristics, are not available in open sources.
