The Fiorello variety is a representative of traditional Italian wheat varieties, bred in the mid-20th century. Its origin is linked to the combination of the Cologna 188 and Damiano varieties, where the first component represents a selection from a local population.
The plant possesses specific morphological characteristics, including large grain with an average length of more than 7 mm. In scientific literature, the variety is often mentioned as a valuable parental component contributing to an increase in grain mass and size in breeding work.
In modern research, Fiorello is used primarily in comparative genetic analyses of protein composition and genotyping as a typical representative of the winter wheat of its time. The variety is not intended for intensive technologies of modern industrial production.
