Variety description

10 August 2026

The Gazul variety is a spring wheat widely cultivated in the Castile and León region. In scientific papers, it acts as a local Spanish variety, demonstrating adaptive physiological mechanisms of gas exchange under conditions of moisture deficit at the reproductive stage.

The plant is used as parent material in breeding programs aimed at modifying grain protein composition, in particular at reducing gliadin content using RNA interference. When compared with modern breeding lines, the variety may be inferior in biomass and yield indicators under conditions of elevated temperatures and CO2 concentration.
