The Kleiber variety was obtained by crossing the lines Heines 2174 / Peko // Koga II. As a spring wheat, it is not considered a modern commercial variety for wide-scale cultivation and is regarded as a genetic resource for breeding work.
In scientific literature, the variety has been used to study factors limiting grain size, gluten protein composition, and the effect of nitrogen and sulfur nutrition on baking quality. Under experimental conditions, the variety demonstrated the ability to exhibit seed dormancy during terminal stress, which affects resistance to pre-harvest sprouting.
