The variety was obtained by crossing Mentana and L-4 varieties. The plant is characterized as tall, with a semi-club-shaped and very loose ear. The variety is distinguished by early ripening and high tolerance to unfavorable conditions, including the ability to grow in poor soils with insufficient precipitation.
In modern wheat genetics, Pane 247 is widely known due to the creation of a series of aneuploid lines based on it, used for gene mapping. Due to its age, the variety is practically not used in commercial crop production and is preserved mainly in genetic resource collections.
