The variety Poros is used in cytogenetic experiments to create substitution lines and study the wheat genome. It often acts as a negative control when screening for resistance to diseases, particularly powdery mildew, to which the variety shows high susceptibility.
In scientific literature, the variety is characterized as tall and gibberellin-sensitive. Its genetic material is involved in research aimed at studying dwarfing genes, as well as in the creation of breeding lines involving wild wheat relatives, such as Aegilops geniculata.
