The Somca variety belongs to soft wheat of French breeding. During variety trials conducted in France and Spain in 2012–2013, the variety demonstrated a yield potential comparable to the Apache variety and had no pronounced problems with lodging or leaf diseases during the early stages of vegetation.

Despite satisfactory grain bulk density indicators, the variety was noted as sensitive to low temperatures. In a number of field trials in Spain, susceptibility of plants to leaf rust infection was recorded.
