Plants of this variety are characterized by a significant height, which ranges from 130 to 140 cm. The variety is traditionally cultivated in the hilly areas of the Sicilian provinces of Syracuse, Ragusa, Agrigento and Trapani, while preferring light soils.
The variety is used for the production of semolina and durum wheat flour. Centopruni is an ancient local variety formed as a result of folk selection, and is often mentioned in studies of genetic diversity and use in organic farming.
