The variety was obtained on the basis of the CpB144 line, a derivative of the Senatore Cappelli variety, and a short-stemmed line with Rht1 dwarfing genes. The plant is characterized by intermediate height, which provides high resistance to lodging.

The variety possesses resistance to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina) based on hypersensitivity mechanisms. The grain of the variety is suitable for the production of pasta.

Creso is sensitive to moisture deficit, due to which its yield under drought conditions is lower than that of modern varieties. The variety was historically most widely used in the central and northern regions of Italy.
