The Flaminio variety was obtained as a result of breeding work crossing the Latino and Cappelli varieties. The plant is characterized as a representative of Italian breeding, adapted for obtaining high-quality semolina and pasta products.

The variety is included in a number of agronomic studies where its reaction to wheat mosaic virus was evaluated. In studies evaluating product quality, Flaminio demonstrated pasta pigmentation indicators comparable to modern analogues, and is often used as a reference sample in genetic analysis.
