The variety is intended for food production, in particular semolina pasta. In publications, the variety Flavio is mentioned as a representative of 20th-century Italian breeding, although in some studies it also appears under the name Tito Flavio.

The variety is characterized by high susceptibility to infestation by the granary weevil, which leads to significant grain damage during storage. In certain agronomic reports, the grain protein content is noted at the 13% level.
