The Flodur variety, also known by the code W8607, belongs to spring durum wheat forms. It is widely used in scientific breeding programs as a genetic source of drought tolerance and an object for studying storage proteins.

In laboratory studies, the variety is used as a sample for developing methods to detect common wheat impurities in pasta products. Tests were also conducted on its resistance to pathogens, including Fusarium and Septoria.
