The Mandon variety is known primarily as a parental component in durum wheat breeding programs. It was used in complex crosses to create new varieties aimed at increasing yields and improving gluten parameters and the color of pasta products.

In agronomic studies, the variety is characterized as very susceptible to leaf rust. Currently, it is not a commercial variety and is considered a genetic resource used in breeding work in the second half of the 20th century.
