The Megadur variety belongs to spring durum wheat and is often used as a reference sample when studying plant development genetics and analyzing protein composition, in particular high-molecular-weight glutenin subunits.

In agronomic studies, this variety is classified as late-maturing, possessing a late flowering period. High resistance or absolute immunity of the plant to certain types of spike infection is also noted.
