The variety Nuño originates from CIMMYT genetic material and is a sister line of the variety Yavaros. It became widespread in Spain and Mediterranean countries in the 1980s and 1990s as a high-yielding alternative to local tall-growing varieties.
The plant belongs to short-stemmed forms with a stem height of 65–80 cm. The variety is characterized by high grain quality indicators suitable for the needs of the pasta industry. In some regions of the Maghreb, genetically similar material was known under the name Karim.
