The variety belongs to spring durum wheat. Its genetic pedigree includes numerous local varieties, such as Zenati-bouteille, Wells, Barrigon-yaqui, Tehuacan-60, Leeds, as well as genetic material from Tunisian and Italian varieties.

In studies of resistance to stem rust, the variety was noted as resistant to races TTKTT_KE and TKKTF_TN, but susceptible to race TTRTF_IT. The variety is used as a reference sample when studying the composition of protein fractions and the population structure of durum wheat.
