The Plinio variety was obtained as a result of the breeding combination of Linea D 50 and Trigo Candeal. It is characterized by high gluten quality indices, making it valuable for the production of pasta products and breeding programs aimed at improving flour characteristics.

In the course of studies on the susceptibility of durum wheat varieties to Fusarium head blight, the Plinio variety was classified as highly susceptible to this disease. The variety is frequently used in scientific literature as an object of genetic research, including the analysis of microsatellite markers.
