Variety description

The variety belongs to the group of late-flowering double tulips. Flowering occurs in the period from April to May. The plant forms strong erect stems 40–50 cm high, which are resistant to wind and lodging. The variety is winter-hardy and withstands frosts down to –25°C.

The flowers are large, 8–10 cm in diameter, double, and resemble peonies in shape. The petal color is saturated, dark burgundy, with a velvety sheen, which looks like chocolate under certain lighting. The plant is suitable for cut flowers, retaining its decorative qualities in a vase for a long time.

In landscape design, the variety is used for decorating flower beds, mixed borders, and containers as an accent plant. In a number of specialized databases, the Black Canyon variety is indicated as a synonym for the Canyon variety, possessing identical morphological traits.
