The variety belongs to the species Tulipa praestans. The plant is short, reaching a height of 25–35 cm. The flowers are bright scarlet, with 2 to 5 buds forming on a single stem. The deep green leaves have a wide cream border.

The variety is early-flowering; blooming begins in the middle of spring. The plant is characterized by winter hardiness and the ability to be grown as a perennial without annual digging. It prefers sunny areas with well-drained fertile soil.
