The Montreux Rouge variety belongs to the early double tulip group and is a mutant of the Montreux variety. The plant has medium height and a dark purple-red flower, corresponding to code 46A in the international classification.

The variety is mid-season flowering and is intended for landscaping and ornamental cultivation. It is suitable for forcing, including the water-grown method, and allows for cold treatment at a temperature of 9 °C.
