Variety description

The variety was obtained from seeds collected in 1999 in Madrid. The tree has an irregular crown and demonstrates a fast growth rate — about 90 cm per year. Branches can form cork tissue.
The leaves are round or rhomboid in shape, with a pointed tip, dimensions about 39 by 30 mm, with triple-serrate margins. Petioles are short, about 2.5 mm. When unfolding, young foliage is dark red in color.
The variety possesses resistance to Dutch elm disease: under artificial inoculation, wilting rates are less than 5%. Genetic studies indicate a possible admixture of genes from Ulmus glabra.
