The Viburnum opulus variety was bred as a result of many years of breeding work by scientists at the Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University based on an extensive collection of the crop. Initially, the variety appeared under the breeding designation Saldus, which was subsequently changed to the official name Perlas.
The fruits of the variety are a source of biologically active substances. The plant is intended for use as a garden crop. Specific morphological characteristics and data on disease resistance are not detailed in open sources.
