The Helbi variety belongs to the crop Vicia faba L. It is a local conservation variety of Estonian breeding, which, according to its morphological characteristics, is a large-seeded type and does not belong to the small-seeded fodder varieties.

The plants have a height of about 1 meter, strong vertical stems, and white flowers. The pods are characterized as large and fleshy, reaching 14–15 cm in length, with each containing 4 to 6 seeds. The variety is considered mid-season, sometimes described as mid-early.

The grains of the variety are distinguished by an increased content of protein, sugar, and high caloric value, thanks to which they are valued in home cooking, and are suitable for canning, freezing, and dietary nutrition. Studies note the variety's susceptibility to damage by the broad bean seed beetle.
