The variety belongs to the dwarf type (Zwerg-Typ) and the ti group, associated with the determinate growth type or specific morphological features. This variety is absent from current German variety lists.

In the scientific community, "Tinova" is used as a standard sample for determining nuclear genome size by flow cytometry, as well as in studies of the TFL1 gene. The sample is stored at the IPK Gatersleben Genebank under accession number FAB 602.
