The Medes variety belongs to the Vicia faba L. varieties that do not contain tannins in the seed coats. The plant is white-flowered.
Studies of the nutritional value of the seeds of this variety show that the absence of tannins affects feed digestibility, while a decrease in the digestibility of amino acids, starch, and lipids is noted in animals compared to control diets. The variety is mentioned in European catalogs and variety trial materials from the early 1990s.
