Sheegene-20
ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety has ancient origins, is genetically linked to Greek varieties, and is a natural hybrid of the Mantonico Bianco variety. The plant is well adapted to hot and dry climates, has the potential for high yields, and is characterized by thick grape skins.
The variety matures in early to mid-season. Its primary purpose is winemaking; however, the grapes have a tendency to lose acidity rapidly at the end of the season. Wines made from Inzolia have moderate acidity with aromas of almond, citrus, pear, and wild herbs.
In addition to winemaking, the variety is used as a table grape for local consumption, though due to thin skins, it is not suitable for transportation. It is widely cultivated in Sicily, Tuscany, and on the islands of Elba and Giglio.
