The variety is a natural hybrid of Cayetana Blanca and Alfrocheiro, traditionally cultivated in the provinces of Zamora and Salamanca. Synonyms for the variety include Negreda, Mouratón, Tinta Gorda, Negrera, Nepada, and Tinta negreda.

The plant has medium to above-average vigor. Berries are medium-sized, elliptical, dark blue in color, and gathered in dense, compact clusters. The density of the clusters contributes to the natural raisining of some berries, but the variety is prone to gray mold infection in fertile soils.

The grapes are used in winemaking both for creating varietal wines and in blends. The resulting wines are characterized by moderate acidity, soft tannins, an alcohol content of 12–13.5%, and notes of red berries, mountain flowers, and mineral and menthol undertones.
