The variety is a cross between Schiava Grossa and Muskat Alexandria. Despite the German name Muskat Trollinger, it is not genetically related to the Trollinger variety and is the internationally known Muscat Hamburg.

The berries are large in size and dark blue or black in color. The variety belongs to the mid-season category, characterized by good keeping quality and a specific muscat aroma. During cultivation, protection against pests, birds, and typical grape diseases is required.

The grape is versatile in its use: in Germany, it is used as a table variety and for processing into rosé wines, which are distinguished by a mild taste and exotic aromatic characteristics.
