The Myrtia variety was bred as a result of targeted crossing of the Monastrell and Syrah varieties within the framework of a genetic improvement program. The primary objective in creating the variety was adaptation to semi-arid climate conditions with high temperatures.

The berries of the variety are characterized by a small size, which has a positive effect on wine quality. Wines from Myrtia are characterized by high phenolic quality and color intensity, exceeding the indicators of the parent varieties.

The variety possesses adaptability to abiotic stresses, such as moisture deficit and high temperatures. Since 2022, the variety has been officially authorized for use in winemaking.
