The variety is genetically related to another traditional Corsican variety, Sciacarello. In ampelographic registers, it is classified as a wine grape variety of the Vitis vinifera species with black berries. The plant is characterized as a rare, nearly extinct variety that requires conservation.

It is traditionally cultivated on poor and acidic granite soils in dry and windy climate conditions, which contribute to reducing the risk of berry rot. Organic farming methods are used during cultivation, and for wine production, the harvest is often left on the vine until it reaches a state of over-ripeness.

The variety is used for making red dessert wines, which are characterized by notes of wild lavender, herbs, red berries, plum, cherry, as well as woody and resinous undertones. The preservation of residual sugar in the wines is achieved by forced fermentation stoppage at low temperatures.
