The foliage of the shrub retains its dark purple or burgundy color throughout the entire growing season. The main flowering period occurs in May–June, with possible repeat flowering in August–September.

The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zone 5 (down to −28.9 °C). The shrub prefers sunny sites with fertile, well-drained soils. It is used in landscape design for creating hedges and accent plantings.

There is a possibility of synonymy between this variety and the Weigela florida «Alexandra» variety (trade name Wine & Roses), which indicates a possible confusion in commercial names.
