Variety description

The plant is slow-growing, forming a squat crown with a width corresponding to its height. The leaves are small, narrow-elliptic, have a glossy sheen and a dark color, which may acquire a greenish tint under deep shade. The flowers, 2.5–3 cm in size, have a saturated pink-purple or dark crimson color.

Flowering is abundant, occurring in May–June, with possible repeat flowering in August–September. The variety is winter-hardy, withstanding the climatic conditions of USDA zones 5–8. It prefers sunny locations to maintain the intensity of leaf color and adapts well to various types of fertile, well-drained soils.

The plant does not require staking and needs light pruning after flowering to maintain its shape. Due to its compactness and the decorative contrast of foliage and flowers, the variety is used in mixed borders, low hedges, rock gardens, and also for container cultivation.
