The variety «Black Star» (trade name «Brillant») is a relatively compact plant with peduncles 40 to 75 cm high. The spathe inflorescence has a classic shape with a diameter of 6–6.5 cm and a length of 9.5–10 cm, colored dark burgundy with violet or plum shades. The leaves are narrow, glossy, dark green with white or grey spotting.

The plant is used for cultivation in containers, pots, for cut flowers, as well as for planting in open field. Flowering continues from early summer to early autumn; in the soil, it begins 2–3 months after planting the tubers. The variety is thermophilic, does not tolerate frost and requires lifting for the winter period. The plant contains calcium oxalate, which causes irritation upon contact.
