The variety is based on traditional Italian maize varieties such as Nostrano dell'Isola, Scagliolo Marne, and Marano. Breeding work has been conducted since 2007 to ensure the high grain quality required to give the beer its characteristic dry and refreshing taste.
The plant belongs to hybrid varieties of FAO 300 and 500 classes. The variety has a highly specialized industrial purpose and is grown in limited areas in the Piedmont, Veneto, and Lombardy regions for the needs of the Birra Peroni company.
