The variety is open-pollinated and has been cultivated since the 16th century in the province of Belluno. The plant is characterized as tall and robust, adapted to the specific mountain conditions of the Dolomites. The ear has a conical shape and a white cob.
The grains are colored an intense yellow-orange, have a vitreous consistency, and a characteristic pointed tip, from which the variety derives its name. The mid-early maturity allows the plant to ripen in the conditions of a short mountain summer.
The primary use of the variety is for flour production for traditional polenta. The resulting product is valued for its dense consistency and specific organoleptic properties due to the traditional milling of the grain.
