Capsicum annuum L.
A fungal disease of peppers caused by a complex of Colletotrichum species, which most severely affects fruits at all stages of development, causing rot and cracking.
In the reference 10 varieties crop Bell pepper, where this is mentioned in the description.
The disease is caused by the fungi Colletotrichum capsici, C. gloeosporioides, C. acutatum, C. truncatum, and C. scovillei. The latter species is highly aggressive, affecting fruits even in their immature state, whereas other species more frequently appear during the ripening stage.
The primary symptom on fruits is sunken lesions with concentric rings. Under high humidity, acervuli with orange, pink, or black spores form in the center of the lesions. On stems and leaves, the disease manifests as chlorotic spots and sunken streaks, leading to defoliation and stem breakage.
