Bacterial diseases — Asian pear
Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm. f.) Nakai
Bacterial diseases of the Asian pear are caused by pathogens Erwinia pyrifoliae, Dickeya fangzhongdai, Pectobacterium actinidiae, and Pseudomonas species. The diseases manifest as tissue necrosis, the formation of cankers with exudate, and shoot blight.

The primary causal agent of black bacterial blight is Erwinia pyrifoliae, the symptoms of which include blackish-brown streaks along the leaf midrib and necrosis of petioles and flowers. Unlike the classic fire blight caused by E. amylovora, bark tissue under surface necrosis often remains green when infected with E. pyrifoliae.
Bacterial canker, accompanied by exudate release on the bark, is caused by pathogens Dickeya fangzhongdai and Pectobacterium actinidiae. Shoot and flower blight, known as "blossom blast," is triggered by Pseudomonas cerasi and Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae. Resistance to these pathogens in Asian pear is polygenic; specific resistance genes have not been identified in agronomic practice.
