Fire Blight of Apple

Malus Mill.

A dangerous quarantine disease caused by the bacterium Erwinia amylovora, which leads to tissue necrosis, shoot wilting, and rapid tree death.

In the reference 119 varieties crop Apple, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causal agent of the disease is the gram-negative bacterium Erwinia amylovora. A characteristic symptom of young shoot infection is wilting, blackening, and the curling of the tips into a 'shepherd's crook'. Under high humidity, droplets of bacterial exudate ranging from colorless to dark brown appear on the tissues, and necrotic ulcers form on the bark.

Apple resistance to the pathogen is polygenic. In breeding, marker-assisted selection methods are used to evaluate potential resistance to infection, focusing on the FBF7 resistance locus. Its identification is carried out using specific DNA markers, such as the SCAR markers AE10-375, GE-8019, and the SSR marker CH-F7-Fb1.
